Reading comprehension is the skill of understanding, remembering, and thinking about a story after reading it, and second graders build it every time they read a short narrative and answer questions about what happened. The Kite Contest Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives them a friendly, one-page story to practice with. Students read about a boy named Owen who enters a kite contest at the park, meets a girl whose kite gets stuck in a tree, and chooses to help her instead of racing ahead. Along the way, readers practice pulling details straight from the text, tracking the order of events, and making a simple inference about why a character acted the way he did.
