In this 5.MD.3 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, studentsrecognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement.

This lesson teaches students how to find the volume of rectangular prisms. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.

First, cut, fold, and glue each pattern into an open prism. Then, determine the volume of each prism by packing it with centimeter cubes. Next, write a number sentence (L x W x H) reflecting the number of cubes held by each prism. Finally, continue your practice with the provided worksheets independently or with a partner.
