Putting words in alphabetical order is one of the first real research skills a young student learns, and this Amphibians ABC Order Worksheet gives that skill a subject worth practicing on. Students read ten amphibian words, decide which one comes first, and keep going until every word has a place on the list. Because several of the words begin with the same letter, students cannot stop at the first letter. They have to look at the second letter to break the tie, which is exactly the step that separates guessing from real alphabetizing.
About This Worksheet
The worksheet opens with a word box holding ten amphibians: axolotl, frog, mudpuppy, newt, salamander, siren, spadefoot, tadpole, toad, and treefrog. The words are printed out of order on purpose, so students cannot copy the box straight down the page. Ten numbered writing lines follow, sized with plenty of room for second grade handwriting.
