Description
Alphabetical order is one of the first real reference skills a second grader learns, and this Reptiles Alphabetical Order Worksheet teaches it with animals children already want to read about. The word box holds eight reptiles, and three of them sit in same-letter pairs: alligator beside anaconda, chameleon beside crocodile, and tortoise beside turtle. A student who stops at the first letter will get those three wrong. To finish the list correctly they have to look at the second letter, which is exactly the step second-grade standards ask for.
The sheet is built for independent work and comes in two parts. Part one gives eight numbered lines and a word box printed deliberately out of order, so the list cannot be solved by copying straight down the page. Part two adds three short sets of three reptile words each, and students write 1, 2 and 3 in the boxes to show which word comes first, next and last. Every set again hides a same-letter pair, so the second-letter habit gets nine more chances to stick.
