Description
Consonant blends are two letters that stand side by side at the start of a word and keep both of their sounds. The sp and st pairs are two of the very first blends a young reader meets, and the Blends SP, ST Worksheet gives students focused practice hearing that quick two-sound opening in words like spider, spoon, star, and stairs. Once a child can separate the /s/ from the /p/ or /t/ that follows it, blending the rest of the word gets much easier, and spelling grows steadier at the same time.
This first grade consonant blends worksheet is built in two parts. In Part A, students look at four pictures, say each name out loud, and fill in the bubble for the beginning blend they hear. In Part B, they read five short sentences and write the missing word from the word box on the line, which moves them from listening to writing in one short activity. Use the page as a small-group warm-up, an independent literacy-center task, morning work, or a quick check after a blends lesson. An answer key is included, so grading takes seconds.
