Description
This circling short u words worksheet helps 2nd grade students hear the short u sound in the middle of simple words. Short u is the sound in words like bug, sun, and cup. Learning to tell it apart from long u, as in cube and flute, is an important step in reading and spelling one-syllable words.
On this page, students read three words in each of six rows and circle the one word that has a short u sound. The other words in each row have long u or a different vowel sound, so children have to listen carefully instead of guessing. Then they choose two of the words they circled and write a sentence for each one on the lines below.
