Description
Short u is the sound children hear in words like sun, cup and bus, and spelling it correctly means hearing every sound in a word and matching each one to a letter. The Spelling Short U Worksheet gives 1st graders focused practice with this skill using simple three-letter CVC words. Each word follows the same consonant, short u, consonant pattern, so children can hear the beginning sound, the middle vowel and the ending sound and write one letter for each.
The page shows six colorful picture cards: a bus, a cup, a sun, a rug, a piece of gum and a bathtub full of bubbles. Under each picture are three short lines, one for each letter. Students say the name of the picture, stretch out the sounds, and write the three letters that spell the word. The three lines give a helpful clue about the length of the word and keep the task clear and friendly for young learners.
