Description
This double digit addition regroup worksheet gives second grade students six column problems in which the ones always add up to more than nine, so a carry is required every single time. That is the point of the sheet. A student who has only ever seen sums that stay under ten can get through a page of addition without noticing the tens column at all, and this page makes the regrouping step unavoidable from the first problem to the last.
Part A holds six two-digit sums, each in its own card with a circled item number, set large enough for a second grader to line the digits up by eye. Every sum stays within one hundred, which is the second grade standard, and the amount carried varies from problem to problem so no child can settle into a pattern. Part B turns the same skill into two short word problems about a classroom, each with its own answer line and unit label. An illustrated stack of library books sits beside them. The answer key on page two shows every sum filled in.
