About this resource

Description

Learning about the planet Earth starts with knowing the facts that make our home planet different from every other world. This Earth Planet Worksheet gives 3rd Grade students a clear, kid-friendly fact file about Earth and then asks them to use it, so research becomes an active skill instead of a copying exercise. Students find out where Earth sits in line from the Sun, how many moons it has, what kind of planet it is, how long its days and years last, and what its air is made of.

The Earth Planet Worksheet is a two-page printable with a built-in answer key. Page one opens with the Earth Fact File, a six-fact reference panel students read first. Part A asks them to complete four sentences using a word bank, and Part B asks three questions that must be answered in complete sentences, including a two-step question about how many days are in two Earth years and a short written explanation about why Earth’s air matters to living things. Print it, hand it out, and let students work independently or with a partner.

What’s Included

  • A printable Earth research worksheet with an Earth Fact File reference panel
  • Part A: four word-bank sentences drawn straight from the fact file
  • Part B: three complete-sentence questions, including an application problem and a written explanation
  • A full answer key on the final page
  • Clean, classroom-ready formatting with plenty of room to write

Three Reasons This Helps Kids

  • Reading for information. Students practice pulling exact details out of a short factual text instead of guessing.
  • Writing in complete sentences. Every Part B answer builds the habit of answering fully, not with a single word.
  • Thinking beyond recall. The two-step question and the explanation question ask students to use the facts, not just repeat them.

Teacher and Parent Ideas

Use this 3rd grade planets worksheet as a science warm-up, a station activity, or homework after a lesson on the solar system. Teachers can turn the Fact File into a quick partner quiz by covering it and asking students to recall the six facts from memory. Parents can extend the page by helping a child add two new Earth facts of their own on the back, or by comparing Earth to another planet using the same six categories. It also works well as a model before students research a different planet on their own.
