About this resource
Description
Learning about the planets is one of the most exciting parts of third grade science, and this Venus Planet Worksheet gives students a clear, friendly place to start. Venus is the second planet from the Sun and the hottest planet in our solar system, yet many children know very little about it. This page introduces the facts that matter most: where Venus sits in line from the Sun, what its rocky surface is like, why its thick clouds hold in so much heat, and how strangely long its days and years are. Because every fact a student needs is printed right on the page, the Venus Planet Worksheet works just as well for independent practice as it does for a guided science lesson.
The worksheet opens with a short Venus Facts box written on a third grade reading level. Students read the box, then complete four fill-in-the-blank sentences that send them back into the text for details. Next come three fill-in-the-bubble questions that ask students to compare and infer rather than simply copy an answer. The page finishes with a written response that asks students to find the difference between 243 and 225 and explain how they found it. A complete answer key is included on the second page, so checking work takes seconds.
What’s Included
- One printable Venus worksheet (PDF)
- A short Venus Facts reading box written on grade level
- Four fill-in-the-blank sentences
- Three fill-in-the-bubble comprehension questions
- One written response with three-digit subtraction
- A full answer key
This 3rd grade planets worksheet helps children in three ways. First, it builds close reading: every answer has to be found in the fact box, so students practice going back into a text for evidence instead of guessing. Second, it strengthens science vocabulary, because words like rocky, solar system, and hottest all appear in sentences that explain them. Third, it links science to math, since comparing a 243-day day with a 225-day year turns a planet fact into a real subtraction problem.
Teachers and parents can stretch this page in several directions. Use it as a warm-up before a solar system unit, or as a station activity while small groups build a planet model. Ask students to rewrite the fact box as a short paragraph in their own words, or to draw Venus and label what its thick clouds do. Pair it with a planet chart and have students add Venus to a class display, then compare it with Earth.
