The Ending Sound D T P Worksheet works on the sound at the END of a word, which is the half of phonics that gets least practice. Nine pictures sit in a three by three grid, and under each one the word is printed with its last letter missing. A child says the picture name out loud, listens to the sound the word finishes on, and writes d, t or p in the box to complete it.
Beginning sounds come easily because they are the first thing a child hears. Ending sounds are quieter, they arrive after the vowel has already done the work, and d, t and p are exactly the three that get confused, because all three are short stop sounds made at the front or the tip of the mouth.
