Description
The Find the Total Amount Worksheet gives second graders real coins to count and a total to write for each one. Every item shows a drawn set of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters at their true relative sizes, so a student has to recognize each coin before adding it. That one change is the whole point: a child who only reads the words “three nickels” never learns to pick a nickel out of a handful of change.
The sheet moves in three steps. Four warm up items ask for the total price of a single coin set. Two more items put two sets side by side with a plus sign between them, so students add one pile to another the way they would at a school store. A short story problem finishes the page and asks what one pencil cost.
