Listening carefully and doing exactly what was asked is one of the first school skills a young child has to build, and this following directions tasks worksheet gives Kindergarten students four short, clear chances to practice it. Before a child can complete a math page or a reading activity independently, they have to hold a direction in mind, find the right item, and act on it. That is a real skill, and it grows with practice on directions short enough to succeed at.
The printable page holds four numbered tasks, each with one sentence and a row of five things to look at. Students circle the bird among five friendly animals, color the star yellow in a row of shapes, cross out the letter M in a row of letters, and draw a box around the 5 in a row of numbers. Because each task uses a different kind of item and a different action, a child cannot fall into a pattern; they have to read the sentence every single time.
