About this resource

Description

A frog does not start life looking anything like a frog. This frog life cycle worksheet walks second graders through the four stages of a frog’s life — egg, tadpole, froglet, and adult frog — and asks them to put those stages in the right order. Sequencing a life cycle is one of the first times students have to reason about change over time in a living thing, and frogs make that idea easy to see, because every stage looks completely different from the one before it.

The page shows four big, clearly drawn pictures in mixed-up order. Students look at each picture, write 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the box to show where that stage belongs, and then write the name of the stage on the line using the word box at the top. Because the four words are supplied, students can put their attention on the science instead of on the spelling. A complete answer key sits on the second page, so this life cycle of a frog activity is ready to hand out, to grade quickly, or to leave for a substitute.

What’s Included

  • One printable Frog Life Cycle Worksheet in PDF format
  • Four picture cards showing frog eggs, a tadpole, a froglet, and an adult frog
  • A word box holding all four stage names for spelling support
  • An order box and a writing line inside every picture card
  • A full answer key on page two

Three Reasons This Helps Kids

  • Putting the stages in order builds the same sequencing thinking students use when they retell a story.
  • Naming each stage gives students real science vocabulary they will meet again in later grades.
  • The large, uncluttered pictures let every learner succeed, including students who are still building reading confidence.

Teacher and Parent Ideas

Use this frog life cycle worksheet as a warm-up before a pond study, as a quick check after a read-aloud about amphibians, or as a station during a spring science unit. Ask students to turn the page over and draw a fifth picture that shows where the cycle begins again, or have partners retell the cycle out loud using the four words before they pick up a pencil. It also pairs well with a class frog-watching journal, where students sketch what changes they notice week by week.
