Reading comprehension grows fastest when a student has a real reason to keep turning the page, and money gives them one. The How Much? Reading Comprehension Worksheet puts a fourth grader in charge of a fundraising booth, then asks readers to follow the plan, the price, and the running total all the way to the end of the story. Students practice finding the main idea, tracing cause and effect, reading a phrase in context, and pulling exact dollar amounts out of a narrative instead of out of a word problem. That mix is what state reading assessments actually ask for, and it is what makes a money story such a useful place to practice it.
This 4th grade money worksheet is a two-page original story followed by a full page of questions. Jocelyn and Gabriel need sixty dollars for new library books, so they paint stones to sell at the school craft fair, and the whole story turns on one argument about the right price to charge. Read pages one and two together, then let students work the question page on their own. The last page is a complete answer key, so a teacher can check a stack of papers in a couple of minutes or hand it straight to a student for self-checking.

Three things make the How Much? Reading Comprehension Worksheet worth a full class period.
