Description
Factors are the building blocks of every whole number, and this Just the Factors worksheet gives fourth graders the practice they need to find all of them. A factor is a number that divides evenly into another number, leaving nothing behind, and finding every factor of a number is the skill that later makes equivalent fractions, greatest common factors and long division feel easy. Students who can list the factors of 44 without hesitating are students who already see how numbers are put together.
The sheet is built the way a busy classroom needs it. Page one opens with six numbers between 18 and 81, each in its own card with a long line for the full factor list, and closes with two word problems that ask students to use factors in a real situation and then show their thinking. Page two is the complete answer key. Print it as an independent practice page, use it as a warm up before a lesson on multiples, drop it into a math center, or send it home for review.

Three things make this just the factors worksheet worth the printing. First, every number on the page has a manageable factor list, so students practice the method rather than fighting the arithmetic. Second, the numbers were picked to break the habit of guessing: 44 and 50 look similar and factor very differently, and 81 has no even factors at all, so a student who is pattern matching instead of dividing gets caught quickly. Third, the two word problems push past listing into application, which is where the fourth grade standard actually lives.
Teachers and parents can stretch this 4th grade factors worksheet well past a single lesson. Have students build rectangles with tiles or graph paper for each number and match every rectangle to a factor pair. Ask which number on the page has the fewest factors and why, which opens a conversation about prime and composite numbers. Turn the sheet into a game by calling out a number and having students race to list its factors. For an extra challenge, ask students to find a number under 100 with exactly three factors and explain what is special about it.
