About this resource
Description
Full and empty are some of the first capacity words children learn, and they show up everywhere, from a glass of juice at breakfast to a wagon waiting for toys. This Writing Empty Full Examples Worksheet gives first graders six clear pictures to study, so they can practice telling whether a container is holding as much as it can or holding nothing at all.
Each picture sits in its own card with a writing line underneath. Students look at the juice glass, box, wagon, apple basket, bucket, and bowl, decide if each one is full or empty, and write the word from the word box on the line. The two answer words are printed at the top, so children can copy the spelling and focus on the thinking. Use it for a math center, a quick morning review, or homework after a lesson on capacity.
What’s Included
- A two-word box with the words empty and full
- Six picture cards of everyday containers, each with its own writing line
- An answer key
Why This Worksheet Helps Kids Learn
First, it builds capacity vocabulary with real objects kids already use at home and at school. Second, the answers are mixed up, so students must really look at every picture instead of guessing a pattern. Third, writing each word on the line gives extra handwriting and spelling practice with two common opposite words.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Before the page, fill and empty a real cup of water and have children call out full or empty. After they finish this 1st grade full and empty worksheet, ask them to find three full things and three empty things around the room. You can pair the writing empty full examples worksheet with a sand or water table so kids can test their ideas with real containers.
