How to teach Opposites

Using Same and Different Snowflakes Opposites Activity, studentsplay this fun game to practice identifying same and different opposite pairs.

Knowing the differences between opposites is important for your students. This activity will help your students find opposite pairs.

There are two differentiated sets available (a set with three answer choices and a set with two answer choices). Cut the cards apart on the black, horizontal lines. The goal of this activity is to find the snowflake that is the same as the first snowflake. Place a clothespin over the same snowflake. To make this activity self-correctly, place a sticker behind the correct snowflake on the back of the card.

Introduce this activity by reviewing opposites using the Opposite Flash Cards. Next, students play the Opposite Game. Whatever the caller tells them to do, they need to do the opposite. For example, if the caller says “Sit down”, students should stand up. Then, students complete activity independently. Finally, students share more examples of opposite pairs from the activity. Once finished, students write sentences using the opposites from the activity.
