Description
After a big rain, worms crawl out onto sidewalks and driveways, and children always notice. This Saving the Worms Reading Comprehension Worksheet turns that everyday moment into a short, kind story for second graders. A boy named Kai finds worms all over the wet sidewalk, learns from his mom why they came up out of the ground, and carefully moves each one to the soft grass on a big flat leaf. The story is written at a 2nd grade reading level, so students can put their effort into understanding the text instead of decoding it.
Students read the five-paragraph story on the first page, then turn to the question page to answer four multiple-choice items and one written response. The questions reach across the whole story, from what Kai saw on the sidewalk to why a sidewalk is not a safe place for a worm, and the last multiple-choice item asks for the main idea. The written response asks why Kai wanted to save the worms and tells students to use two details from the text. A complete answer key is included.
