Description
This subtraction equations word problems worksheet helps kindergarten students turn a short story into a math sentence. Word problems ask children to listen, picture what happens, and then show it with numbers. When a story says some things go away, the child learns that subtraction means taking away, and that the answer is how many are left.
Each of the three stories comes with a row of pictures that matches the number in the story. Students read the story with a grown-up or on their own, count the pictures, and cross out the ones that go away. Then they write the whole equation in three boxes: the starting number, the number taken away, and the number left. All numbers stay within ten, which fits the Kindergarten standard for solving subtraction word problems.
