Using this Valentine’s Day Adding Coins Worksheet, students find out how much the Valentine’s Day penguins cost. For each penguin stuffed animal, the cost is totaled by counting pennies, nickels, and dimes. To find the total cost of each penguin, add the dimes, nickels, and pennies together.
Knowing how to add different coin amounts together is an important skill for students to learn. This skill helps students when they are counting out change at a store or counting money in their piggy bank.
First, start by adding the dimes, then the nickels, then the pennies to get the total cost of each penguin. When students start by adding the larger coins first, it makes it a lot easier to count on and add to find the total cost.
