Choosing between was and were is one of the first grammar decisions second graders make on their own, and the Was Were Fill in the Blank Worksheet gives them steady practice at it. Was and were are the past tense forms of the verb to be, and the correct one depends entirely on the subject of the sentence. A single person, animal, or thing takes was.
