Being able determine the main idea of a text helps your students build their reading comprehension. This activity will help your students organize their thoughts to find the main topic as they read.
Students read the passage and use the resource page to record the key details to support the main idea of the text.

Use this Listen for the Main Idea Activity as an additional resource for your students.
Introduce this activity by reading a short book. Next, ask students what the book was about and how they know. Then, have students complete the activity independently or with a partner as they read. Once finished, have students share out the main idea of their text. Finally, challenge students to share the main idea of the book by completing the sentence starter “This book is about..” using only 5 words!
