How to teach Coordinate Pairs

In this 5.G.1 Fifth Grade Common Core Lesson, studentswrite and use coordinates to find a given point on a coordinate graph.

This lesson teaches students how to use and write coordinate pairs to locate points on a coordinate plane. This lesson is perfect for small group, math centers or independent practice.

You can play this game two different ways- with a partner or independently.With a partner, take turns flipping over coordinate cards and moving your piece to the coordinate. If you spy an object on that coordinate, collect the picture card. If you are playing independently, read the I Spy riddle and look for the object on the game board. Once you spy the object, record the coordinates on the worksheet labeled “Version 2”. Continue your practice with the provided worksheets independently or with a partner.
