A coordinate plane turns a flat grid into a map, and every point on it has one exact address written as an ordered pair. This Plotting Graphing Coordinates Worksheet gives 5th Grade students focused practice naming points, plotting points, and explaining what each number in an ordered pair really means. Students learn that the first number always tells how far to travel right along the x-axis, that the second number always tells how far to travel up along the y-axis, and that reversing the two numbers lands them somewhere completely different.
This 5th grade graphing worksheet moves students from reading a graph to building one. In Part A, children study six labeled points on a first-quadrant grid and write the ordered pair for each one. In Part B, they plot four more points and label them, including two points that sit directly on an axis, so students have to work with zero as a coordinate. In Part C, they solve two short problems that ask them to move a point a given number of units and to diagnose a classmate’s x-axis and y-axis mix-up.
