About this resource
Description
The Blank Greatest Common Factor Worksheet helps 5th grade students find the greatest common factor of two numbers with a clear, three-step method. Students list every factor of each number, sort those factors into a Venn diagram, and then read the greatest common factor straight from the middle where the circles cross.
This printable math worksheet gives students three number pairs to work through: 12 and 18, 20 and 28, and 14 and 35. Each card has a line for the factors of each number, a Venn diagram labeled with both numbers, and a GCF line for the final answer. Hand it out after a lesson on factor pairs, and have students check their own work with the answer key on page two.
What’s Included
- Three greatest common factor problems, each with two factor lists
- A labeled Venn diagram for every number pair
- A GCF answer line on each card
- A complete answer key showing every factor list and the sorted Venn diagrams
Why This Worksheet Helps Kids
- The Venn diagram makes common factors easy to see, so students understand what the GCF means instead of memorizing a trick.
- Listing all the factors builds multiplication and division fact fluency.
- The same steps work for any pair of numbers, which prepares students for simplifying fractions.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Model the first card together, thinking aloud as you test each number as a factor. Then let students finish the other two on their own or with a partner. For extra practice, write new number pairs on the back and have students draw their own Venn diagrams. This 5th grade GCF worksheet also works well as a warm-up before a lesson on simplifying fractions, or as a quick homework review. Pair it with the Blank Greatest Common Factor Worksheet answer key to give fast feedback in small groups.
