Description
Consonant blends are the first place many young readers slow down, because two letters have to hold on to their own sounds and still slide together. This Blends FL, FR Worksheet gives first graders focused practice with two blends that are easy to mix up, fl and fr. Both start with the same letter, so a child who is guessing from the first letter alone will get half of them wrong. Hearing the second sound is what separates flag from frog, and that is exactly the listening this page trains.
This kindergarten beginning sounds worksheet grows into first grade work by asking students to write, not circle.
