Description
Almost every classroom has a bulletin board, but few children know that the soft brown cork comes from the bark of a tree. This Bulletin Board Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives third graders a short informational passage about what a bulletin board is for, where cork comes from and why a pushpin slides into it so easily. The text is written at a 3rd grade reading level, so the work stays on the thinking, not on decoding.
Students read the four-paragraph passage on the first page, then turn to the question page and answer four multiple-choice items, one fill-in-the-word item and one written response. The questions are drawn from all four paragraphs, and the last multiple-choice item asks for the main idea of the whole passage. The fill-in item asks for the word bark, which the passage defines right after it first appears, so students practise finding a meaning from context. A complete answer key follows.
