The Simple Machines Reading Comprehension Worksheet puts three of those tools into one short informational passage written on a 3rd Grade reading level, then asks students to prove they understood it. Reading to learn from a science text is a different job than reading a story, and this printable gives children a friendly place to practice it.
The passage explains what a simple machine is and then defines a lever, an inclined plane, and a pulley one at a time, using an example a child already knows: a seesaw, a loading ramp, a flagpole rope. Every science term is defined inside the sentence that introduces it, so students practice using context clues instead of stopping to look words up.
