Description
A consonant digraph is two letters that work together to make one sound, like ch in chair or sh in ship. This consonant digraphs ch sh th wh activity gives kindergarten through 3rd grade students hands-on practice hearing and reading the four most common beginning digraphs.
How to Use This Activity
Children lay out the four digraph header cards: ch, sh, th, and wh. They pick a picture-word card, read the word, listen to its first sound, and look at its first two letters. Then they place the card under the digraph it starts with. When every card is sorted, students write each word on the Digraph Sort Sheet and add one word of their own. Use it in a phonics center, a small reading group, or as a kindergarten beginning sounds activity at home.
