How to teach Describing Key Ideas
Using Describing Key Ideas Activity,students make up something that the Person on the card might say to show the key idea.
Being able determine the main idea of a text helps your students build their reading comprehension. This activity will help your students recognize details that match key ideas.
Students write dialogue to match the key idea on the matching card.

If you are using this activity, your students are probably learning about main idea.
Use this Main Idea Hand Graphic Organizer as an additional resource for your students.
Introduce this activity by reading a short book. Next, ask students what the book was about and how they know. Then, have students complete the activity independently or with a partner as they read. Once finished, have students share out the main idea of their text. Finally, challenge students to share the main idea of the book by completing the sentence starter “This book is about..” using only 5 words!
