The Fall Asking Sentences Worksheet helps second grade students hear the difference between a sentence that tells and a sentence that asks. An asking sentence starts with a question word like when, what or why, and it always ends with a question mark. A telling sentence ends with a period. Once a student can spot that difference, end punctuation stops being a rule to memorize and becomes something they can hear. This Fall Asking Sentences Worksheet builds that ear with six autumn sentences and three questions students write themselves.
The worksheet has two parts on one page. In Part A students read six fall sentences about raking leaves, picking pumpkins and warm cider, then write a period or a question mark in the box at the end of each one. Three sentences ask and three tell, mixed so the pattern cannot be guessed. In Part B students write their own asking sentence beside each of three question word tags: when, what and why. Use it as morning work, as a grammar center, or as a quick check after a mini lesson on end marks. The answer key is on the second page.
