How to teach Ending Sounds

Using the Final Consonants Activity, students use the gumball machines to sort picture sounds based on final consonant sounds.

Being able to identify the ending sounds helps students read and write words. This activity gives them practice using common words that they will encounter in their reading.

Sort each picture card onto the correct gumball machine, based on the picture’s final consonant sound. Next, repeat the activity with other consonants. Then, fill out the worksheet

Once students are finished, challenge students to find new words that could go on the gumball machine.
