Description
Cause and effect is one of the first reading skills a young student uses to make sense of a story, and it is the skill this Find the Effect Cause and Effect Worksheet is built around. A cause is the reason something happens, and an effect is what happens because of it. When a second grader can name the cause and then name the effect it led to, they stop reading word by word and start following the way one event pushes the next one along. That habit carries straight into comprehension questions, science observations, and the everyday reasoning a child does when they notice that a plant left without water begins to droop.
This 2nd grade cause and effect worksheet gives students two clear ways to practise. In Part A, four causes sit in colored boxes on the left and four effects are printed on the right, scrambled so the answers never line up straight across. Students read each cause, think about what would happen next, and draw a line to the matching effect. In Part B, students read a cause on their own and write one complete sentence that tells the effect it led to. Use it as morning work, as a small group warm up, as a partner activity where children explain their matches out loud, or as a quick check before a reading unit.

There are three reasons this Find the Effect Cause and Effect Worksheet helps children learn the skill.
