Understanding four digit numbers is one of the biggest steps in third grade math, and this four digit place value worksheet gives students a clear, focused way to practice it. Every number from 1,000 to 9,999 is built from thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones, and each digit carries a value that depends entirely on where it sits. When a child can read a number like 4,263 and explain that the 2 stands for 200, that child is ready to round, compare, add, and subtract larger numbers with real confidence.
This printable worksheet moves through three short parts. In Part A, students read six expanded form number sentences and write each one in standard form. The place words are deliberately mixed up, so children have to read carefully instead of copying the digits in the order they appear.
