The letter c is one of the trickiest consonants in English, because a single letter can stand for two completely different sounds. When c comes before a, o, or u — as in cat, cold, and cup — it makes the hard /k/ sound. When c comes before e, i, or y — as in cent, city, and race — it softens into the /s/ sound. This Hard Soft C Pictures Worksheet gives 2nd Grade students focused practice hearing and identifying both sounds, so decoding an unfamiliar word becomes automatic instead of a guessing game.
This hard and soft c sounds worksheet works in two parts.
