How to teach Citing Evidence
Using this Look in the Text Activity, students ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
Being able to interact with the text that they are reading will help your students to gain a better understanding of what they have read. This activity will help your students as they read independently.
Students will read “Davy Crockett” and using the “Good Readers…” poster and graphic organizer to find the answers to questions in the text. Students can use the same graphic organizer as they read any text to practice finding the answer in the text.

Introduce this activity by having students share their opinions about their favorite foods. Next, students give reasons to support why they chose that food to be their favorite.
