Using Looking at the Character’s Viewpoints Activity, students acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters to gain a different perspective.

A character’s dialogue and actions can give your students a lot of information about what they are thinking and feelings. This activity will help your students to learn more about the characters and author’s points of view on a topic.

Students will read “Baby Sister” Next, they describe the different points of view of the characters in the story. Then, students can use the same graphic organizer as they read any text.

Introduce this activity by having students share what they know about a character from a story you recently read in class. Next, students share different ways that they learn about a character. Examples could be pictures, dialogue, what the author tells us, etc. Then, students complete the activity independently or with a partner. Finally, students share what they have learned about the characters they read about.
