About this resource
Description
Learning to Count Coins
These money flash cards help children recognize pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and find the value of a group of coins. Counting money builds number sense, skip counting by fives and tens, and the real-world skill of paying for things. The set starts with a single penny and grows step by step to mixed coins worth a whole dollar, so it fits kindergarten through third grade.
How to Use the Money Flash Cards
Each fold-over card shows real-size coin pictures on the front and the amount inside, along with the coins named, so students can check their own work. Print the cards on one side of the paper, fold each sheet on the center line, and make a few straight cuts. Students count the biggest coins first, count on with the smaller coins, say the amount, and open the card to check. These kindergarten money flash cards also work for older students as a quick warm-up or a math center review.
What’s Included
- Colorful cover page
- How to Use page with simple steps and game ideas

Why These Cards Help Kids
- Coins are drawn at their true relative sizes, so children learn that a dime is smaller than a penny but worth more.
- The cards move from one coin type to mixed coins, building confidence one step at a time.
- The self-check inside every card gives instant feedback without waiting for an adult.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Have students build the same amount with real or play coins, find two cards that show the same value, or line up the cards from least to most money. Send a few cards home in a zip-top bag for family practice, or keep the full set on a binder ring in your math center.
