The muscular system is the body system that moves us, holds us upright, and keeps the heart beating every second of the day. Fourth graders are ready to move past “muscles make you strong” and learn how the three types of muscle actually work: skeletal muscle that moves the bones, smooth muscle that lines organs like the stomach, and cardiac muscle that is found only in the heart.
