Everything a student can see, hold, or breathe is made of matter, and matter shows up in three familiar forms: solids, liquids, and gases. This states of matter examples worksheet gives 4th graders a clear way to tell those three forms apart by looking at real, everyday things — an ice cube, a glass of milk, the steam rising from a mug of cocoa. Students learn that a solid keeps its own shape and size, a liquid keeps the same amount but takes the shape of its container, and a gas spreads out to fill whatever space it is given.
