Counting in order is the backbone of every other number skill a first grader learns. This number order fill in the blanks worksheet gives children steady practice with the counting sequence to 120, first by ones and then by tens. Each row shows a short run of numbers with a few boxes left empty, and students figure out which numbers belong in the blanks by thinking about what comes before and after.
About This Worksheet
This 1st grade counting worksheet has two parts. In Part A, students count by ones across four number rows. Every row crosses a decade, and one row crosses 100, which is exactly where young counters tend to get stuck (ninety-nine, one hundred, one hundred one). In Part B, students count by tens across three rows that start on numbers like 4, 36 and 63, so they notice that the ones digit stays the same while the tens digit grows by one each time. Children read the printed numbers in each row, find the pattern, and write the missing numbers in the boxes. A full answer key is included for quick checking.

Keep a hundred chart nearby for Part B: let children trace a column with a finger to see that counting by tens moves straight down the chart, then cover the chart and try the next row from memory. If a child stalls at 99 or 109, pause and count that crossing out loud a few times. Early finishers can write their own count-by-tens row that starts on any number and trade it with a partner.
