Polygons are closed, flat shapes made of straight sides, and learning to describe them is the heart of fourth grade geometry. Once students can count sides, count corners, and spot pairs of parallel sides, they can sort any figure they meet into a category and explain the reason for their choice. This Polygons Attributes Worksheet gives fourth graders a clear, organized way to practice that skill on six common figures: a triangle, a rectangle, a trapezoid, a pentagon, a hexagon, and an octagon. Instead of memorizing shape names, students look carefully at each figure and record what is actually true about it.
This 4th grade geometry worksheet is built around a single attribute chart. Each row of the chart shows one polygon drawn to scale beside its name, and students fill in three columns: the number of sides, the number of corners (vertices), and the number of pairs of parallel sides. Because every figure is drawn accurately, students can trace each side with a finger and check their own thinking before they write. Two application questions follow the chart. The first asks students to name the polygon with twice as many sides as a triangle, and the second asks them to use the chart to explain why a classmate’s rule about four-sided shapes is incorrect.
