The Questions Examples Worksheet gives second grade students a clear, friendly way to practice one of the first punctuation rules they are asked to master: a sentence that asks something begins with a question word and ends with a question mark, while a sentence that tells something ends with a period. Children hear questions all day long, but reading a sentence and deciding which mark belongs at the end is a separate skill, and it is the skill this page builds.
Using this Questions Examples Worksheet, students read six short sentences about a rock on the path, a sleeping dog, a rainy garden, the school bus, a soccer game and a row of seeds, and write a period or a question mark in the box at the end of each one. Three of the sentences open with a question word, so the page teaches children to listen for the words where, when and who as a signal before they ever pick up a pencil. In the second half, students become the writer: each tag gives them a question word, and they write an original question of their own that ends with a question mark.
