Description
Putting words in alphabetical order is one of the first real reference skills a young reader learns, and it is the skill that later makes a dictionary, a glossary, an index, and a classroom word wall usable. This Reptiles ABC Order Worksheet turns that practice into something second graders actually want to do by filling the word box with ten reptiles, from the alligator to the turtle.
On this 2nd grade alphabetical order worksheet, students read the ten reptile words in the word box and rewrite them in ABC order on the numbered lines. Because three of the words begin with the letter c and two begin with the letter t, children cannot stop at the first letter; they have to compare the second and third letters to decide which word comes first. A short circle-the-word section then checks that same skill one pair at a time.
