Description

How to teach Adjectives

Using this Sorting Adjectives Worksheet, students sort adjectives into four categories- emotions, textures, feelings, and action to increase student vocabulary.

Adjectives are words that give us more information about nouns (people, places, and things). This worksheet will give students an opportunity to practice sorting adjectives into categories to increase student vocabulary.

First, read the word. Next, decide what category the adjective fits in best. Then, cross out the word that you have used. Continue until all words are sorted into one of the three categories. Challenge yourself by writing a sentence using one of the words in the sort.

Introduce this worksheet by reviewing adjectives with the Have Fun Teaching Adjectives Song. Next, students describe themselves or a partner using only adjectives. Then, students complete the worksheet independently or with a partner. Finally, students draw pictures and label the picture using adjectives. Once finished, students create a list of adjectives that they want to use in their own writing.
