The mp blend is one of the first ending blends young readers meet, and it turns up everywhere in the words children already use — camp, lamp, jump, stamp, damp and bump. Blending two consonants at the end of a word is harder than it looks, because a reader has to hold the vowel sound and then land both final sounds cleanly instead of dropping one.
