Description
Left and right are two of the first position words young children need, and they are surprisingly tricky, because the words describe where something is rather than what it is. This take your positions worksheet gives kindergarten students a clear, picture-first way to practice them. Every item shows a box split down the middle by a line, with one friendly object sitting wholly in the left half or wholly in the right half. Students look at where the picture sits, then circle the word Left or the word Right underneath.
The page is built so the only way to answer is to know left from right. The two choice words are stacked one above the other in every card, never printed under their own half, so a child cannot simply circle the word closest to the picture. The six pictures, an ice cream cone, a sunflower, a juice box, a traffic cone, a carrot and a water bottle, need no reading at all, and the answers are mixed so there is no pattern to copy. Before starting, have students hold up their left hand and make an L with the thumb and pointer finger, then use that trick on each box.
