Using This is What I Know Activity, studentswrite informative text in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure using research from books.
Your students already know a lot of information on topics that you have learned in school. This activity will help them to build on their knowledge through research.
Choose an informational book. Then, discuss the information on the Activity Cards. Use the information from your discussion and the writing
paper to write an informative/explanatory piece.

Use these Research Notes Worksheets as an additional resource for your students.
Introduce this activity by students asking what they know on a specific topic. Next, students share details that they on that topic. Then, distribute the activity materials so students can begin their writing. Once finished using the experience cards, students can write more about each topic. Finally, students can share their writing through a gallery walk or other presentation.
