Wild turkeys are one of the easiest big birds for children to picture, and this Tom the Turkey reading comprehension worksheet turns that curiosity into real reading practice. Second graders meet Tom, a wild turkey who lives in the forest, and learn what he looks like, what he eats, and how he keeps himself safe. Reading a short informational text and answering questions about it is the heart of second grade reading: students have to hold several facts in mind, go back to the page, and point to the words that prove an answer.
This 2nd grade animals worksheet is a three-page set. Page one is the passage with a full-colour forest scene, page two holds the questions, and page three is the complete answer key. Four multiple-choice questions ask about key details — what kind of animal Tom is, what the red flap on his neck is called, where he finds his food, and why he roosts in a tall tree at night. A written response then asks for the most important idea in the whole text, with two lines for the answer and a direction to use two details from the passage as proof.
